Tiger Woods' Love Affair with the Rolex Deepsea
March 16, 2019Legend of Golf Tiger Woods wearing a Rolex Deepsea Oyster Perpetual Timepiece |
Among his most notable wins, he has won the Masters Tournament 4 times, the U.S. Open 3 times, the Open Championship 3 times and the PGA Championship 4 times. He is the only player to have won all 4 major championships in a row between 2000 and 2001. Woods has brought with him thundering crowds of fans to any tournament he enters. He has injected a much needed spark into golf - increasing its popularity worldwide - largely due to his tremendous fame and winning smile.
In recent years, Woods has suffered back surgery and pain, but roared back in 2018 to a 26th in the world ranking, while picking up his 80th PGA Tour victory at the Tour Championship. He also came in second at the PGA Championship and 6th at the Open Championship. Although he is only 4 major wins away from tying the "Golden Bear" Jack Nicklaus, he still seems to have plenty of golf left in him to achieve that feat in his lifetime.
Woods is a very powerful golfer - known for hitting very long drives. His powerful set of physical skills is matched by a cool levelheadedness and the ability to lock into the zone. His focus, tenacity and fierce competitiveness is something feared and admired. He has forced many courses to attempt to "Tiger-proof" their course (making the course longer) in order to increase competitiveness and keeping other golfer's to being relegated to fighting for 2nd place. Tiger has been proven to raise the level of play of golfers that play with him.
Rolex Oyster Perpetual Deepsea of the Sea-Dweller series |
The Deepsea is powered by the caliber 3235 and can withstand a diving depth of 12,800 feet. It has a triplock triple waterproofness system and a helium escape valve to help reduce pressure whenever approaching significant diving depths. The timepiece has a 60 minute graduated unidirectional rotatable bezel with numerals coated in platinum. The crystal is 5.5 mm thick scratch-resistant sapphire. The timepiece is built with high-performance Paraflex shock absorbers and a Paramagnetic Parachrom hairspring oscillator to keep it functioning even when being banged around. The power reserve is a significant 70 hours.
The biggest feature about this timepiece is the diving depth support. Yet it has all of the features of a great Rolex timepiece. It has a date aperture and a large winding crown. The white luminescent hour markers and hour and minute hands provide exceptional visibility during any activity. Even the bezel has a luminescent dot at the 0 minute position. The glidelock extension system lets divers adjust the timepiece and wear it on top of a wetsuit as easily as under the cufflink of a business suit.
