Justin Timberlake released his first new single since 'The 20/20 Experience' last week.  The song, entitled 'Can't Stop the Feeling,' will be featured in the Dreamworks animated film 'Trolls' that is set for release in November. In the video clip for the song, he is shown in a recording studio playing the track for friends and family. The musician lends his voice to a character in the film and serves as executive music producer of the soundtrack. His costars, including James Corden, Gwen Stefani and Anna Kendrick, all make cameos in the music video. The song is being hyped as the next 'Happy,' a hit song recorded by Pharrell Williams for the 'Despicable Me 2' soundtrack.

While it remains to be seen if the song will become as ubiquitous as 'Happy' was a few years ago, it is clear that Timberlake has shifted directions in his career, focusing on family-friendly music and movies. The father of one retains his casual, classic American styling which is bolstered by the classic elegance of the gold Rolex. Check it out in the performance video below.

Who Wears a Yellow Gold Rolex Day-Date?

Known as the presidents' watch, the Rolex Day-Date (Reference # 228238) is a symbol of success that transcends time and place. Introduced in the 1950s, this model is only available in precious metals and represents the ultimate in prestige and status. The yellow gold configuration, shown below on Justin Timberlake, is met with both reverence and resistance by fans of the brand. However, even though yellow gold has fallen out of favor with some over past decade, they Day-Date model is still a favorite of the superstars of sports, music and fashion.

Aside from Justin Timberlake, who wore the gold Day-Date above in his video for Can't Stop the Feeling! earlier this year, there are many celebrities who have been spotted wearing this reference in the past few years. Hollywood power couple Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux have both been photographed wearing gold Day-Dates. Victoria Beckham, Kim Kardashian and Nicki Minaj have also been seen sporting this configuration, proving that the wristwatch model is equally suitable for women's wrists. LeBron James, shown in the photo below, sported a Day-Date II while taking part in the parade in Cleveland after the Cavaliers took home the NBA championship earlier this year.

The Day-Date model was the first to feature the President bracelet and an arc-shaped window displaying the day at 12 o'clock. A superlative chronometer, the 40mm version features a 3255 self-winding mechanical movement manufactured by Rolex in-house with a power reserve of 70 hours. It features a fluted bezel and the scratch-resisant sapphire crystal features a Cyclops magnifying lens over the date aperture at 3 o'clock. This model is also available with a 36mm case and a leather strap. The 40mm yellow gold configuration in the photo below (Reference # 228238) retails for 33,200 Swiss francs or approximately $33,459 US.

Which is the Best Rolex for Me?

With Baselworld 2017 around the corner, many watch enthusiasts wonder if they should wait until after the international trade show to make their next wristwatch purchase. While the excitement of new Rolex configurations is palpable, it will be a while before anyone will get their hands on a 2017 model. When it comes to choosing the best Rolex model for you, taking a look at model introductions of years past will help you figure out which models to look out for in the new model year.

A model that received a subtle update in 2016 is the Explorer (Reference #214270), an often overlooked stainless steel professional model. The update included extending the minute hand and adding luminescence to the Arabic numerals at 3, 6 and 9 o'clock. What people love about this model is that it combines understated elegance with a sporty spirit at a reasonable price. The symmetry of the dial makes it a pleasure to look at on a daily basis and the 904l stainless steel used guarantees the longevity of the timepiece should you decide to wear it daily.

2015 White Gold Rolex Day-Date
If you are looking for a more prestigious wristwatch made of gold or platinum, look no further than the 2015 Day-Date 40 (Reference #228239). Shown above in white gold, this classic model is often referred to as the 'President's Watch' because many powerful figures have chosen to wear it since its introduction in the 1950s. This model is favorite amongst popular music's elite, including Justin Timberlake and Bruno Mars. Opera legend and Rolex Arts Testimonee Plácido Domingo wears this model in platinum, adding to its legacy of excellence.

The hottest wristwatch model to be released by Rolex in the past few years, the stainless steel Cosmograph Daytona (Reference #116500LN) features a black Cerachrom bezel insert that gives the new configuration a classic look. Similar in aesthetic to the coveted vintage Paul Newman Daytona models, it is hard to come by, with waiting lists around the world at Rolex Authorized Dealers. If you are willing to wait and pay a premium, this Daytona will surely retain its value over time due to its popularity.

Finally, for those who value simplicity over complications, Rolex offers their Oyster Perpetual model in a variety of sizes and colors. With case sizes that range from 26 millimeters to 39 millimeters, they are suitable for both men and women. Their dials range in colors from blue to green, with red grape and champagne for those who prefer a bit of flair. These are their most reasonably priced models in addition to their versatility.

Top Rolex Everose Gold Wristwatch Models

Cast in their own foundry, Rolex introduced their Everose gold alloy in 2005. Its composition, meant to help their wristwatches retain their pink hue for a lifetime, is a closely guarded secret. Even after over ten years in production, not every model is available in this unique material. Of the 2016 Everose gold configurations offered by the watchmaker, I have selected a few that truly shine in this precious metal.

I came across a photo of the Everose gold Sky-Dweller with Chocolate dial on UFC fighter Connor McGregor's wrist recently and couldn't resist reposting it to my Instagram feed. It looked so fresh and bold that I thought it was a customization. Only after inquiring on the forums did I find out that it is in fact a standard configuration offered by Rolex on this model. While it still looks great in white and yellow gold, the Sky-Dweller really sets itself apart in rose gold. It is available with a chocolate dial, as shown in the photo above, or with a Sundust dial on either an Oyster bracelet or brown alligator leather strap.

As I mentioned in my post about grail watches last week, I think the Everose gold Day-Date 40 with chocolate dial is a real stunner. The yellow gold configuration is more common, as seen on Justin Timberlake and other celebrities, but this pink gold version takes one of Rolex's most recognizable watches and makes it look exotic. The President bracelet looks fresh but still sophisticated in this tone and the light shining off the fluted bezel draws the eye in without appearing too flashy. This is the perfect Day-Date for anyone who thinks that yellow gold watches are too gaudy.

Rolex's Cosmograph Daytona model has become ubiquitous in the past few decades. Aside from the Submariner, this is the Rolex model that I see most frequently on the street and in photos. While you will have to pay a premium and search high and low for the new ceramic Daytona, the Everose gold configuration shown above has been around for longer and is easier to get onto your wrist. The first Daytona to feature their Cerachrom bezel insert, it offers the sporty aesthetic of the race watch with the elegance of a black alligator leather strap.

The Yacht-Master shown above in rose gold is unique, not only due to the material used for the case, but for the Oysterflex bracelet it comes with. Introduced on this model in 2015, the black elastomer bracelet features an Everose gold Oysterlock clasp. This configuration offers a stark contrast to the stainless steel options for this model, with an aesthetic that resembles luxury timepieces by watchmakers like Audemars Piguet. The strap makes it a bit more difficult for this watch to transition to more formal settings, but it is ideal for those who may actually send time on the open seas.

The Everose gold Pearlmaster shown above with a diamond paved dial and bracelet is a dazzling addition to their ladies lineup. In this instance, the warm tone of the pink gold creates a wonderful contrast with the cool tones of the diamonds on the dial, bezel and bracelet. This Pearlmaster is more a work of art than a wristwatch. The roman numerals, hands and crown at 12 o'clock give it an almost ancient feel, as if this timepiece was found in the vault of an empress or queen.

It is clear that Rolex saves its radiant Everose gold alloy for their most prestigious timepieces. While I would welcome more pink gold configurations, I feel that keeping these configurations limited only increases their allure. While Rolex labels most of their wristwatch models like the Submariner and the Day-Date as men's watches on their official website, many women choose to purchase them instead of the watches they label as women's. As far as women's models go, the watchmaker offers the Lady-Datejust and Pearlmaster in sizes that range from 26mm to 39mm.

Superstars like Rihanna have been photographed wearing women's models, but it is more common to see female celebrities in men's models. The Day-Date is a popular model for both men and women, specifically Jennifer Aniston, Victoria Beckham and Kim Kardashian. Justin Timberlake and LeBron James also wear gold Day-Dates. Some say that men's models are too large women's wrists, but Charlize Theron makes a case for the contrary, wearing a Deepsea - the largest Rolex currently in production. Gender inequality is still a major issue in most parts of the world, but many women today feel completely comfortable shopping for watches in the mens section. So even though they may not be labeled as such, they can still be considered unisex based on current fashion trends.

2016 Everose Gold Rolex Day-Date

To honor the 60th anniversary of the presidents' watch, Rolex released the Day-Date 40 model in Everose gold and white gold with an olive green dial, the watchmaker's signature color. Powered by a Calibre 3255 manufactured in-house by Rolex, this Superlative Chronometer has a power reserve of 70 hours and functions with a precision of -2/+2 seconds per day. Its 40 millimeter case size brings this classic dress watch into the 21st century while preserving the sophistication that has made this model a favorite amongst the most powerful men in the world for over half a century.

Among the most prestigious of all Rolex models, the Day-Date 40 features a President bracelet made up of three semi-circular links that conceal the Crownclasp. It has a depth rating of 100 meters thanks to its Oyster case, which is sealed with double watertight security by a Twinlock winding crown. The fluted bezel is characteristic of Rolex's dress watches, encircling the crystal with refracted light. The combination of Everose gold with the olive green dial shown above (Reference # 228235) creates a beautiful color balance that is unique and refreshing when compared to more common precious metal configurations.

The Day-Date model is a favorite of celebrities, as you can see on my Celebrities Wearing Rolex Watches page. This versatile model pleases a wide range of tastes due to its classic aesthetic and clean display. While many, like Justin Timberlake and Victoria Beckham, choose to sport the yellow gold configuration (Reference # 228238), the rose gold configuration is a wonderful choice for anyone who wants their timepiece to stand out. The olive green dial will surely be limited, making it possible for this configuration to appreciate over time if availability should become limited.

If you've seen Justin Timberlake's music video for 'Can't Stop the Feeling!' you may have noticed the gold Rolex on his wrist. Known as the 'Presiden't Watch' the Day-Date model was introduced in 1956 and was the first Rolex to feature the President bracelet.

One of the most identifiable characteristics of this model is the arc-shaped window that displays the day of the week at the 12 o'clock position. The first wristwatch to spell out the day on the dial, the day display is now available in 26 languages.

The Day-Date is only available in 18 karat gold or 950 Platinum, adding to the prestige of this timepiece. The gold versions feature a fluted bezel as seen on the yellow gold configuration shown in the photo above. The platinum version with the ice blue dial comes with a smooth bezel.

The 40 mm Day-Date is powered by a new-generation 3255 movement, this timepiece received Rolex's Superlative Chronometer Certification for its precision of -2/+2 seconds per day after casing. The suggested retail price for the yellow gold Rolex Day-Date is 33,200 Swiss francs or approximately $33,459 US.

How to Choose a Rolex

While Rolex is a very recognizable brand that has been around for many years, it can be difficult to decide which of their wristwatch models best suits your lifestyle. Model configurations vary in size, material and pricing, each with their own unique characteristics. While no one can tell you which Rolex model(s) to choose, your decision can be made much easier when you have all of the information necessary to properly evaluate them.

Although the decision ultimately comes down to personal aesthetic and functionality in most cases, pricing is usually a big factor in determining which Rolex model to choose. Rolex offers many of their popular models in 904L stainless steel, like the GMT-Master II BLNR shown in the photo below. Most of their stainless steel models are priced under $10,000 US. I put together a list of my picks in this category that includes suggested retail prices in a previous entry found here.

Rolex also offers configurations that combine stainless steel with gold. They refer to this combination  as Rolesor and their rose gold as Everose. The Yacht-Master II model is one of their largest models and comes in two tone Everose Rolesor as shown in the photo below. If gold is what you're looking for, Rolex has many model configurations that really shine in white, yellow and Everose gold. Rolex makes the gold used for their wristwatches in their own foundry located at their Plan-les-Ouates site in Geneva, Switzerland. Most of their gold models are priced under $50,000 and you can check out my picks here. Their popular Cosmograph Daytona model is shown below in yellow gold with a blue dial.

If price is not an issue and you are looking for a classic Rolex with a modern aesthetic, I would recommend the Platinum Day-Date model with the ice blue dial shown below. Justin Timberlake wore the yellow gold version of this model in his latest music video. The suggested retail price for this model is 59,600 Swiss francs or approximately $60,180 US.

Another thing that makes it easier to decide which Rolex model is right for you is by seeing it on somebody else.
